Nesta out of final
06/07/2006: Italy defender Alessandro Nesta has been ruled out of Sunday's World Cup final due to his niggling groin injury.
The AC Milan centre-back has not featured for the Azzurri since limping out of their final group game against Czech Republic, but it was hoped he may to play some part in the Berlin showpiece.
Despite stepping up his comeback in training this week the news from the team doctor is not good for Nesta, who has been ruled out of the clash with France.
Doctor Enrico Castellacci spoke to the press on Thursday afternoon, insisting: "He's (Nesta) definitely not available."
Inter Milan's Marco Materazzi is expected to continue to partner Fabio Cannavaro in the heart of the Italy defence.
