Nedved fears America

20/05/2006: Czech Republic playmaker Pavel Nedved has warned his team and his other group opponents of the United States side who he believes could be the dark horses of this World Cup.

The Eastern European country face the States, Italy and Ghana in the first phase of the competition

"The journalists are only talking about Italy, and that is a great mistake," he said.

"The Americans may be the dark horses of the whole World Cup - I have seen them play five times and I have to say that their team is very strong."

Pavel Nedved came out of international retirement to help his nation qualify for World Cup 2006 through the play-offs and is considering retiring for good after the tournament.

"I will wait and see. I want to fully concentrate on the World Cup, play good soccer, then anything may happen.

"I have a number of options, and retirement is one of them. I will be 34 in August and I will see what motivation I will have to play.
