Miroslav Klose
23/05/2006: Few would have bet that Germany's Miroslav Klose (Shirt Number 11) would make such an impact during the 2002 World Cup, but the Polish-born forward nearly finished the tournament as its top scorer.
His five goals during the competition meant that he finished second behind the consistently prolific Ronaldo of Brazil.
Despite playing for the likes of Werder Bremen, Klose nearly didn't make it as a pro at all and worked as a carpenter for several years while playing amateur football.
Some have suggested that the four goals he scored against a -shocked Saudi Arabian side in 2002 were not scored against quality opposition, but his goals for Werder Bremen have shown that he does have real talent.
He will want to go one better than last time during his home tournament and finish this summer's World Cup as its top scorer.
After a great season with Bremen, Klose could not have prepared better for the World Cup, as he was awarded the Bundesliga Player of the Year title for his 25-goal effort.
