Milan still hopeful of Buffon deal

22/07/2006: AC Milan have revealed that they are still chasing the signature of Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

There has been a mass exodus from the disgraced Turin giants with Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluca Zambrotta, Lilian Thuram and Emerson all having left the club and others being lined up by some of Europe's top clubs.

Buffon's agent had already claimed that his player would be prepared to stay with Juve, despite the relegation into Serie B and 30-point reduction.

However, Milan chief Ariedo Braida has revealed that he is still hopeful of luring the World Cup winner to the San Siro.

Braida said: "We want to bring Buffon to Milan. But he has asked us for more time to think things over."

Meanwhile, Braida has also insisted that his star midfield duo of Kaka and Andrea Pirlo will still be playing for the Rossoneri next term, even though they face a 15-point penalty for their part in the match-fixing scandal.

Braida insisted: "Kaka has never spoken with any journalist, never has he said anything to anybody and he is ultra-happy to be with us.

"Pirlo? I have spoken with his agent and also with him. I told him that Milan does not intend to sell anybody and he's told me he does not want to leave.

"Indeed, no-one has come to me asking for a transfer."
