Michael Ballack
24/04/2006: Perhaps the player under the greatest pressure to perform during the forthcoming World Cup is Germany's talented midfielder, Michael Ballack.
Germany's team is not as strong as it has been in the past, but the home fans will be desperate for their team to go one better than they did during the 2002 tournament, where the Germans made an unexpected appearance in the final.
Ballack is the talisman of the team and clearly the most gifted player in the German line up, with the ability to burst into the box from deep areas.
The fact that he turns 30 this summer means that he may not make the next tournament, and he will be desperate to make the German's home advantage pay.
If that wasn't motivation enough, a suspension meant that he missed the 2002 final against Brazil.
He is currently the subject of transfer gossip, with reports suggesting that he has as good as signed for English champions Chelsea. That shows he is at the top of his game.

15/06/2006: Can Ballack win World Cup singlehandedly for the Germans? I ask this as the rest of the team ain't worth a dollar! Frings, for example, if he played in the England midfield the nation would be screaming. Pundits said they defended better against Poland but hardly surprising when the Poles barely mustered an attack. I know the home nation always goes well in big comps but if Germany win this my **** is a bloater. Unimpressive as England really were against Paraguay I find it hard to believe we can fail to beat the Germans if we do meet them at any stage. No penalty shoot out heartbreak this time as we would murder them. As for England I still believe we have a similar chance to most and better than some of winning the hole shooting match.

He definitely deserves a place in modern football besides David Becham, Ronaldhino, Thierry Henry,etc..He led his club to victory in the german bundesliga,& he will lead chelsea''s hopes & dreams of a third straight title reign victory.
