Mexico squad named

03/04/2006: Mexico coach Ricardo La Volpe named a provisional squad of 26 on Sunday for this year's World Cup in Germany.

There were a couple of surprise inclusion but the biggest talking point will be the omission of the gifted but tempermental Cuauhtemoc Blanco. The forward had been in good form earlier in the season and had baited La Volpe to include him in the squad. However injuries and a run of poor form meant his omission was no real surprise.

MSL defender Claudio Suarez has earned a recall and he will be looking to add to the 174 caps he already has for El Tiri. Another veteran included is Jesus Arellano. Having played little part in the qualifying campaign it was a surprise to see him as part of the final 26.

There are four overseas players in the squad including Claudio Suarez. The others are Jared Borgetti (Bolton), Guillermo Franco (Villarreal) and Rafael Marquez (Barcelona).
