Messi and Tevez to start

29/06/2006: According to sources inside the Argentina camp both Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez are to start their nations World Cup 2006 quarter-final match against Germany on Friday.

The pair have only been used sparingly by coach Jose Pekerman to date having been used as substitutes in the games against Serbia and Montenegro and Mexico as well as starting the 'dead rubber' against Holland.

A favourite of fans throughout the world Messi and Tevez are expected to start in order to exploit Germany's greatest weakness - their defence.

Messi, who has infuriated English fans by having the words Hand Of God inscribed on his boots, plays for Barcelona while Tevez plays in Brazil for Corinthians.

Both are seen as the most exciting players in the Argentine squad behind Juan Roman Riquelme and their inclusion at the expense of Javier Saviola and Esteban Cambiasso will be a surprise to most people including German coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

The tie kicks off a double header on Friday with Italy playing Ukraine in the evening kick-off at 8pm.

Comments on: Messi and Tevez to start

29/06/2006: Great combination. I think Messi can really invade into their territory whereas Tevez will be waiting to destroy them but of course these are just reports - perhaps just to scare the Germans. Personally I think LM will play but CT will have to make do with a place on the bench.

30/06/2006: Both should definitely start. Take the game away from the Germans. Make them chase the game.

03/07/2006: Messi was good although seemed to be too possessive of the ball. Tevez was just amazing. He deserved to win
