Mellberg warns England

07/06/2006: Sweden's captain Olof Mellberg believes both England and Sweden face tough challenges from both Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago

The Swedish skipper acknowledges that England will be favourites both to beat Sweden in Cologne and top the group, but the Aston Villa defender feels that qualification from Group B will not be that straightforward.

"I don't think the group was ever clear-cut," Mellberg said.

"If you go down to South America, they will think Paraguay have a really good chance of going through and if you ask people in Sweden they will back us.

"England are definitely the big favourites for the group, being one of the favourites to win the whole tournament, but I still think it's wide open.

"England will be a really, really tough game and we'll probably need quite a few points going into that game. We need to get those points against Trinidad and Tobago and Paraguay."

Sweden open their campaign against first time qualifiers Trinidad and Tobago in Dortmund on June 10 at 5:00pm
