McBride inspires US victory

29/05/2006: Brian McBride played through the pain barrier after receiving a first-half blow to the head to inspire the United States team to victory in their final warm-up game before World Cup 2006.

Despite dominating throughout, the States could only find the net once - through a McBride header late in the first half.

With John O'Brien and Eddie Johnson both impressing McBride, who top scored for Premiership side Fulham last season, believes his side's improved distribution was the key to their success.

He said: "We've been getting some great crossing into the box and it's made a real difference for us."

McBride's strike gave him his 30th international goal which leaves him just four behind record all time scorer Eric Wynalda.

The US now heads to Germany, where they will face Czech Republic on June 12 in their first World Cup match.
