Mantorras in Professor's plans

08/04/2006: Despite critising coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves Benfica star Mantorras remains in the manager's plans for World Cup 2006.

The striker had complained about Goncalves' tactics after Angola's early African Nations Cup exit which included only using the young forward twice as a second-half substitute.

Goncalves, known as The Professor confirmed that Mantorras was very much in his mind for the World Cup where Angola face Iran, Mexico and Portugal in their group and expects him to be on the plane.

"I have a list of 40 and gradually will cut this down to 26 before the last phase of preparations. But I have no uncertainty about the possible make up of the 23 for the World Cup," he told the ANGOP news agency.

The Luanda-born Mantorras has been described as the best player to emerge from Portuguese Africa since the legendary Eusebio in the 1960's.

Earlier this season he helped Benfica knock Manchester United out of the Champions League thanks to a 2-1 win in Lisbon.
