Maniche
19/05/2006: Portugal's versatile midfielder Nuno Maniche rose to prominence during the 2004 European Championships held in his native land.
He consistently impressed with his ability to give some protection to the back four as well as boss the midfield area and provide outlet passes to team mates.
Scoring also seemed to be part of his game and he netted an impressive long range effort during his country's route to the final, where they lost to Greece.
The goal against the Netherlands in the semi-final was voted as the best goal of the entire tournament.
The 28-year-old went to English champions Chelsea during the January transfer window, where he rejoined the Portuguese manger Jose Mourinho who he had played for when the pair were at Porto.
Maniche has tasted success in his career, as he had a key role in Porto's 2004 Champions League success.
He will be hoping he can play a similar role in Portuguese success at the World Cup.
