Man United set Ruud fee

18/07/2006: Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Ruud van Nistelrooy can go at the right price but says no-one has matched their valuation as yet.

The Dutchman wants out of Old Trafford and Fergie has decided to grant the player his wish of a move but only if the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich come in with enough money.

Real are favourites to land him but the Reds boss has hinted he will at least be looking to recoup the £19million he forked out to PSV Eindhoven for the player five years ago.

Ferguson believes van Nistelrooy is on a par with Andriy Shevchenko who recently joined Chelsea for £30million, so those clubs who were hoping for a cut-price deal are in for a shock.

"There is a possibility that Ruud will go," Fergie is quoted as saying in the Mail. "There have been bits of interest in him, but no one has yet reached our asking price.

"Andriy Shevchenko went to Chelsea for £30million. He's a similar age to Ruud and their records in Europe are almost identical, so you can absolutely guarantee that we're not going to give Ruud away."
