Malouda hails Zidane

06/07/2006: Florent Malouda has sung the praises of fellow France midfielder Zinedine Zidane following his match-winning penalty against Portugal.

Prior to the World Cup many pundits had suggested that Zidane was a player past his prime. However, the Real Madrid man has proved his critics wrong, turning back the years to produce vintage performances.

The impact the 34-year-old has made is not lost on Malouda who said: "Zizou is the man who shows us all how to play."

The Lyon man feels that Zidane is very much the heartbeat of the team, adding: "He is our decisive player and our leader. When he plays well, the team plays well, and that is all I can say about him."

Zidane will be hoping he can continue to produce the goods when France meet Italy in the World Cup final on Sunday as he bids to hang up his boots on a high.
