Magath unfazed by Ballack loss

23/07/2006: Bayern Munich boss Felix Magath feels that Michael Ballack leaving Bavaria for pastures new will work in the club's favour.

The Germany captain joined Bayern in 2002 from Bayer Leverkusen and has helped the German giants claim three Bundesliga titles in his time at the club, while he has also developed into Germany's best player during the same period.

Ballack has completed a move to Premiership champions Chelsea after his contract in Bavaria ran out this summer, which has left a huge void in Bayern's side to fill.

Magath is still looking at the best way forward without the attacking midfielder but feels that the rest of the squad will now raise their game, making them a better team than before.

"If a player like him leaves, then of course it is a loss, but new options have opened up," he said.

"Until now, our game has been dictated heavily by him.

"Now, there is the chance for others to step into the limelight and I expect us to play more flexibly, which at the same time means we will be more attractive to watch."

Magath also believes that recent signing Lukas Podolski will prove to be a huge force at Munich and said: "We really want him to improve his potential and become a player with a huge influence on the future of FC Bayern."
