Lippi US warning

17/06/2006: Marcello Lippi has urged his Italian side to build on their opening group win against Ghana but has warned against over-confidence.

Italy edged out gritty Ghana 2-0 in the week and still have to face USA and the impressive-looking Czech Republic in Group E.

Lippi has told his players they must build on the win over Ghana but is concerned his squad do not become over confident.

"I have told players it would be stupid of us not to use our opening victory as a confidence booster rather than an excuse to relax," he said.

"We have received a lot of praise after the clash against Ghana but we cannot be over-confident."

If Italy progress they will take on the winners or runners-up of Brazil's group. The current world champions are expected to top Group F so Lippi will be keen for his side to finish top as well to avoid the tournament favourites in the second round.
