Lippi plays down Frings absence

04/07/2006: Italy coach Marcello Lippi does not believe the absence of Torsten Frings will weaken Germany ahead of tonight's World Cup semi-final.

Midfielder Frings will sit out the game after being handed a one-match ban for his part in the melee following Germany's quarter-final win over Argentina in Berlin on Friday night.

Tim Borowski is set to replace him but Lippi has played down the enforced change by saying: "I think teams in a semi-final have certain quality and organisation. So they don't suffer when they don't have one player available.

"We have had to do without several players during this tournament. Frings is an important player but I don't think it will affect Germany's play or their determination."

The Azzurri are set to be without thigh injury victim Alessandro Nesta but Marco Materazzi is available after suspension.
