Lippi confident of progress

22/06/2006: Italy coach Marcello Lippi believes his side is capable of beating anyone at the World Cup, starting with Czech Republic.

The Azzurri currently sit on top of Group E with four points but it is still possible for any of the teams to make it through to the second round, depending on how results go on Thursday.

Italy take on the Czechs in Hamburg and still require a point to ensure their passage following a surprise 1-1 draw against nine-man USA, although Daniele de Rossi was also sent off for the Italians.

Lippi though has called on his players to put up the same kind of display they showed in the opening group game against Ghana.

"I want to see the same Italy that we saw against Ghana," said Lippi.

"We must progress to the next round and I believe we can beat the Czechs and any other team in the competition."

Lippi has also spoken to Rossi about his red card, which has now forced him to miss the final group game and will learn of his punishment from Fifa on Friday.

"I spoke to De Rossi the day after the game," he said.

"I told him the significance of his action and how negative it was for the team.

"He is a good kid but he needs to learn not to make that mistake again."
