Lemerre signs new deal

11/06/2006: Coach Roger Lemerre has signed a new two-year deal to stay as head of the national team, but also has the option of a four-year deal.

The French-born 64-year-old, whose current deal expires at the end of the World Cup, has been the coach of the Tunisian national side since 2002.

He led Tunisia to the 2004 African Cup of Nations title and gained qualification to the 2006 World Cup finals.

Tunisia Football Federation president Hamouda Ben Ammar admitted that his decision to offer him a new contract was highly influenced by his past success.

Ammar confirmed: "We have signed a contract."
