Lampard not scared of Fritz
18/06/2006: Frank Lampard says England are determined to win Group B regardless if it will mean a second round clash against the hosts Germany.
The Chelsea midfielder, who is set to play in Tuesday's final group clash with Sweden in Cologne despite being a booking away from a suspension in the second round game, is not concerned about who England will face in that game and is just wanting a third successive win.
A victory or a draw against Sweden, who England have not defeated since May 1968, will see Sven-Goran Eriksson's men top the group and secure a last 16 tie against the runners up of Group A in Stuttgart next Sunday.
That could see England line up against Germany if Jurgen Klinsmann's side fail to defeat surprise-package Ecuador in their final group clash on Tuesday, but Lampard has ruled out any prospect of the players attempting to go into the Sweden game with a plan to secure a result which would see them avoid facing the hosts.
He said: "It's impossible to go into a game considering getting a negative result - we would be letting ourselves down and our fans down.
"I have no preference for who we play. We will be a difficult opponent.
"Sweden is a one-off game that's important for us to top our group and go into the next game with confidence."
Lampard also feels avoiding the Germans might not be a good thing as he sees good things in both potential second round opponents.
He added: "Germany are the host nation and Ecuador are playing some great football."
