Lagerback eyeing England scalp

20/06/2006: Sweden coach Lars Lagerback claims his players will be aiming to defeat England on Tuesday, despite needing just a point to progress.

The Swedes realise by topping the group they will stand a better chance of going further in the World Cup and guarantee an extra day off before their second round fixture this coming weekend.

As a result Lagerback wants his players to avoid settling for a draw which would merely send them through as runners up behind England in Group B and go for broke when the two sides meet in Cologne.

He said: "It is most important that we go out there and do our own job. If we can win the game it gives us an extra day of rest. We need at least to get a draw but we always try to win."

England have not defeated the Swedes for 38 years and Lagerback sees no reason why that run will come to an end in this match.

He added: "England are always a tough team. They have quality in all positions. But we have a lot of players in the Premiership.

"They know the English players well. They know their mentality and their way of playing."
