Kuyt keen on Premiership move

22/05/2006: Netherlands forward Dirk Kuyt has opened the way for a move to Newcastle after admitting it would be a 'dream' to play in the north east.

Premiership side Newcastle are keen to sign a free-scoring striker as a replacement for the retiring Alan Shearer, and Holland international Dick Kuyt (Shirt Number 7) is thought to interest Magpies boss Glen Roeder.

The Feyenoord player may possibly be one of the World Cup stars and Roeder may act now as the player's price is sure to soar if he plays well in Germany.

The former FC Utrecht striker scored 22 goals in 33 appearances last season in Holland.

"I would love to play in the north east," Kuyt revealed. "When I was young I loved Italian football. But only because Van Basten, Rijkaard and Gullit were playing for AC Milan.

"Now I'd rather play in England. I love English football. I also think my style of play is completely right for the Premiership. A club like Newcastle would be my dream."
