Kolo Toure
06/06/2006: During a season in which Arsenal were forced to play a makeshift defence because of injury problems, Kolo Toure has been a vital player.
The Ivory Coast central defender was vital to the North London side, bringing a sense of control at the back, despite the injury problems.
Without Toure completing goal-saving tackles and making up for his colleagues with his excellent pace, Arsenal would not have had a chance of claiming the final Champions League spot on offer, which they secured on the last day of the season.
Despite still only being 25 himself, the young players around him quickly looked to him as the dominant figure in defence and it was a role he took to quickly.
Now Toure has a different challenge, as his country aim to progress out of the toughest group that includes the Netherlands, Argentina and Serbia and Montenegro.
He will need to be at his best to stifle the attackers he will face, including the likes of Hernan Crespo, Carlos Tevez and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
