Klose wary of Pole danger

14/06/2006: Germany striker Miroslav Klose is wary of the threat Poland will pose despite their opening 2-0 defeat to Ecuador.

Pawel Janas' team was widely expected to progress with Germany from Group A but now they face a tough battle on their hands following the surprise defeat against the South Americans.

The Poles now know that defeat against Germany on Wednesday night in Dortmund will end their hopes but Klose, who was born in Poland and moved to Germany when he was eight, is fearing a backlash.

"I know their country is in turmoil after the bad start. That is very dangerous for us," he stated. "A wounded animal always bites back.

"Poland can play much better than they did against Ecuador and they will be keen to show just that. We know what to expect."

The 28-year-old enjoyed an excellent season with Werder Bremen as he scored 25 goals and had 14 assists and he continued his good form in the opening game against Costa Rica by grabbing a brace in the 4-2 win.

Klose insists that he will have no sympathy for the country of his birth even if it is his goals that knock them out of the tournament.

"On the pitch Poland doesn't matter to me. I am German and playing for Germany and will be fiercely loyal to the Germany team.

"It is not an average game for me as I am from Poland - but I represent Germany and we want to win this game."
