Klinsmann: We can cope

22/06/2006: Jurgen Klinsmann is confident Germany can cope with the increasing pressure as the tournament moves into the knockout phase.

The host nation comfortably qualified for the second round with three wins out of three in Group A and kept two clean sheets following the criticism aimed at them after the 4-2 over Costa Rica in the opening game.

The team has also netted eight goals during the group phase and Miroslav Klose is the tournament's leading scorer at the moment with four goals.

Germany will now face Sweden in Munich in the first second round clash on Saturday.

Klinsmann concedes that the pressure will now start to mount, particularly with the expectations now heaped on the home side, but feels that his squad will cope.

"From now on, the mental side of things plays a bigger role," he said.

"We must not allow ourselves to lose concentration.

"We are in a good physical shape and are mentally very concentrated.

"The youngsters have grown up and matured a lot these weeks and we have the conviction (in ourselves)."
