Kirin Cup squad named
02/05/2006: Japan national team coach Zico has named his squad for this month's Kirin Cup, where they will face Scotland and Bulgaria.
The 23-man squad does not include any foreign-based players, nor is there a place for likely World Cup roster member Atsushi Yanagisawa who is currently nursing an injury.
Zico is hoping the Kashima Antlers star will recover from the broken foot he sustained in March, and is giving the striker every chance to regain fitness.
"I have been told Yanagisawa is making good progress," Zico revealed after announcing his squad for the Kirin Cup which runs from May 13 to May 16.
Japan play Bulgaria in Osaka on May 9 and face Scotland four days later in Saitama. Scotland meet Bulgaria in Kobe on May 11. Neither team qualified for this year's World Cup.
Goalkeepers: Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi (Jubilo Iwata), Seigo Narazaki (Nagoya Grampus Eight), Yoichi Doi (FC Tokyo).
Defenders: Makoto Tanaka (Jubilo Iwata), Tsuneyasu Miyamoto (Gamba Osaka), Alessandro Santos (Urawa Reds), Teruyuki Moniwa (FC Tokyo), Yuji Nakazawa (Yokohama F Marinos), Keisuke Tsuboi (Urawa Reds), Shinji Murai (Jubilo Iwata), Akira Kaji (Gamba Osaka), Yuichi Komano (Sanfrecce Hiroshima).
Midfielders: Takashi Fukunishi (Jubilo Iwata), Mitsuo Ogasawara (Kashima Antlers), Masashi Motoyama (Kashima Antlers),Yasuhito Endo (Gamba Osaka), Yuki Abe (JEF United Chiba), Makoto Hasebe (Urawa Reds), Shinji Ono (Urawa Reds).
Strikers: Tatsuhiko Kubo (Yokohama F Marinos),Seiichiro Maki (JEF United Chiba), Hisato Sato (Sanfrecce Hiroshima), Keiji Tamada (Nagoya Grampus Eight).
