Key duo should be fit

02/07/2006: Germany are confident that both captain Michael Ballack and Miroslav Klose will be fit to face Italy on Tuesday.

Ballack was struggling badly with cramp during the quarter-final clash with Argentina although he was able to score a penalty in the shoot-out that helped send Germany through.

Klose, who scored his fifth goal of the tournament when he headed home the equaliser in the 1-1 draw on Friday, was forced to leave the field with a calf problem after a collision with Argentine goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri.

However, Germany assistant coach Joachim Loew believes both will be fit for the semi-final showdown with Italy and said: "They can both play on Tuesday.

"They are getting daily treatment and the next few days will be a case of recuperation for them.

"They both ran an incredible amount in that game.

"We have been working intensively for six weeks and the match used up a lot of our energy."
