Kewell expects to be fit

29/05/2006: Socceroo midfielder Harry Kewell believes he will be fit to play in Australia's first game in World Cup 2006 against Japan.

The Liverpool player injured his groin in the FA Cup final victory against West Ham in May and has missed all of Australia's recent friendlies and World Cup get togethers.

But after completing his treatment at Liverpool's training base at Melwood Kewell has now joined up with his international team-mates at their training camp in the Netherlands.

Although unlikely to play in any of his sides pre-tournament friendlies Harry Kewell is confident about his prospects of playing in the first game against Japan in Kaiserslautern on Monday June 12.

"The injury is not ideal but I am expecting to be back and ready in time for the tournament," said Kewell to liverpool.tv.

"I'm so disappointed that I couldn't get back to Melbourne for the game against Greece but it was out of my control.

"I now have to focus on what is within my control, and that's working hard."
