Kahn handed World Cup chance

07/07/2006: Oliver Kahn will get his first start at the 2006 World Cup when he replaces Jens Lehmann in Saturday's third/fourth place play-off.

The Bayern Munich ace was made aware earlier this year that Arsenal's Lehmann would be Jurgen Klinsmann and has been forced to watch from the bench as the hosts made the last four.

But the veteran Kahn will be given the chance to face Portugal in his country's final game of the tournament, in what could also signal the final game of his international career.

Klinsmann has been impressed with Kahn's attitude, saying: "We have a lot to thank Oliver for at this World Cup. He's been a great influence on the young players and he's deserved a place in the team."
