Joaquin to get the nod
26/06/2006: Joaquin is set to be a surprise inclusion for Spain in their last 16 World Cup clash with France in Hanover.
Liverpool's Luis Garcia was originally the man entrusted with providing the link between midfield and attack but it now appears that coach Luis Aragones is leaning towards a 4-4-2 formation which could mean a start in the right for Joaquin.
Joaquin was benched during Spain's opening rout against Ukraine but he then shone when replacing Garcia in the second half of the 3-1 win over Tunisia and enjoyed a full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia.
However, it was thought that Garcia would return to the side for the test against France but it now appears that Aragones is considering sticking with Joaquin.
"France is a great team," Aragones said. "My biggest concern is my team doesn't maintain its standard.
"We could face a big rival but if we show our worth and we take advantage of our strengths there is no reason why we shouldn't come out triumphant.
"I am convinced we will beat them," he added. "But we are not going into the game as favourites, we have to prove that on the pitch."
