Javier Saviola
25/05/2006: The high hopes that many had for Javier Saviola are testament to the immense natural talent that the tiny Argentine has, but he has also failed to make the most of that talent so far in Europe.
His diminutive frame makes him look like a typical Argentinean number 10, difficult to mark and with great technique.
But the prodigy who arrived at Barcelona for £15 million from River Plate at the age of 20 has had mixed fortunes.
He failed to make an impact on La Liga for the Catalan side and, although he is still owned by Barca, he has been loaned out first to Monaco and then to Seville, with whom he won the Uefa Cup this season.
Recently plagued by injury, Javier Saviola has the ability to turn a game on its head, but needs to recapture some of the form he showed as a teenager in the Argentine capital.
At River Plate, his fine dribbling earned the obvious comparisons with Maradona. That is the kind of trickery Argentina will need if they are to progress from the toughest group in the group stages.
