Latapy signs off in style
11/05/2006: In what was more of a benefit game for Russell Latapy than preparation for World Cup 2006, the Soca Warriors drew 1-1 with Peru in Port of Spain.
It was their last competitive game on home soil before coach Leo Beenhakker hands in his final 23 names to Fifa on May 15.
A defensive mix-up between Brent Sancho and Cyd Gray gifted the visitors an easy goal on 27 minutes.
The upbeat crowd cheered every touch from Russell Latapy, who was playing his last game in Trinidad before retiring from international football. He showed glimpses of why he has been nicknamed the "Little Magician" as he drove forward from midfield.
With Latapy replaced at half-time, it was fitting the game did not end in defeat for the Soca Warriors as substitute Kenwyne Jones fired in a free-kick with 15 minutes to play to level the scores.
T&T's next big game is against Wales in the Austrian city of Graz, where they hope to gain experience of facing the British style of play in preparation for their encounter with England in Nuremburg on Thursday June 15 - their second game in World Cup 2006.
