Holland vs. Argentina

21/06/2006: Argentina top Group C despite being unable to breakdown a resolute Holland side as it finished goalless in Frankfurt.

Argentina displayed some moments of brilliance throughout the match that will surely send a warning round to the other countries left in the competition.

The best chance of the game fell to Juan Roman Riquelme on 29 minutes when his powerful free-kick crashed against the woodwork after deflecting off Khalid Boulahrouz.

Only a minute later the woodwork came to Holland's rescue once more as Maxi Rodriguez's scorching half-volley from distance skimmed the upright.

The impressive Carlos Tevez went close to an opener on 74 minutes as he tested Edwin Van Der Sar with a thunderbolt.

However, despite being second best for most of the match Holland could have snatched the win in the final minutes when veteran midfielder Philip Cocu forced a fingertip save from Roberto Abbondanzieri on what was his 100th appearance for his country.

Argentina go through as Group winners to set up a clash with Mexico in the next round.
