Gonzalez relishing British challenge

20/07/2006: Liverpool new boy Mark Gonzalez admits he'll have to get used to the physical nature of the Premiership but is confident he can cut it.

The Chile international winger's protracted switch to Anfield finally went through last month when he was granted a work permit following a further season in Spain. However, the 22-year-old spent his time in La Liga constructively by watching as many Premiership games as possible in order to hit the ground running.

He said: "I wanted to be properly prepared for what lies ahead. I didn't want to come here cold so I have done my homework.

"In Spain if you are touched by a defender it is a foul every time.

"The same is not true in England. Most times when you are touched it is play on so I have to be aware of that.

"I will just have to get used to that style of play."
