Gianluigi Buffon
18/05/2006: Paying £36 million for a player shows that he must have something of a unique talent. Paying that for a goalkeeper is surely an indication that he is one of the best ever.
That is certainly what Juventus fans think of Gianluigi Buffon, who made that record-breaking move to the Italian champions in 2001 from Parma.
What makes him so special as a keeper is his calmness under pressure, something which is crucial when playing for such a high profile side.
Fans of Italy are no less passionate about their team and Italian keepers have to be on top of their game at all times.
Now 28, still relatively young for a goalkeeper, Buffon should be at the top of his game during this World Cup.
Despite winning several domestic titles with Juve, Buffon has not yet picked up a title outside of Italy, with Champions League honours so far eluding him.
Germany would be the perfect place to start his international trophy collection.

05/06/2006: Go Buffon go. You are really a great goalkeeper and we want to see you as the primary goalkeeper in the Italian National squad this year. God bless you and Italy and I am sure that we're going to win the trophy and make other teams be ashamed. The 2006 trophy belongs to Italy and its fans.

With you as goalkeeper it was no wonder that Italy won the 2006 world cup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU AND THE REST OF YOUR TEAM DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You won the cup for yourselves and your fans. Viva Italia and Viva Gianluigi Buffon!!!!
