Ghanian bets on himself

11/06/2006: Ghana defender Samuel Kuffour believes he will taking money from his AS Roma team-mate Francesco Totti after the pair meet in their nation's opening World Cup 2006 fixture.

Their personal World Cup betting centres around which team comes out on top in the encounter in Hanover

"After the game I will take the money from him," said Kuffour who has only recently returned to the Ghana squad after a few months in the international wilderness.

Ghana's coach and other members of the squad mirrored Kuffour's confidence.

Ghana have three players who regularly turn out in the Italian league with Kuffour being at Roma, Sulley Ali Muntari at Udinese while Asamoah Gyan has been on loan at Modena.

Ghana captain Stephen Appiah is set to face his former boss Marcello Lippi.

Appiah teamed up with Lippi in his time at Juventus where he spent two seasons.

"It's going to be a special game for me. We all know Italian soccer is among the best in the world," said Appiah.

"What I learned from Italy, I will have to prove. I'm happy to be able to see a coach like Marcello Lippi again."

Ghana coach Ratomir Dujkovic gave little away at a press conference.

"All 23 are ready to play," Dujkovic said. "They Italy have some injuries, thankfully we have none."

Italy and Ghana must also play the United States and the Czech Republic in Group E.
