Black Stars confirm Cup squad
12/05/2006: The Ghana management made sweeping changes to the squad who performed so badly at the African Nation's Cup when the Ghana World Cup squad was named on Friday.
Coach Ratomir Dujkovic has included Habib Mohamed who has yet to play for the Black Stars, while there are recalls for Shilla Alhassan Illiasu and Razak Pimpong following a long period in the international wilderness.
There was also a surprise recall of Turkish-based goalkeeper Richard Kingston.
There are places in the roster for the star midfielders of the squad; Stephen Appiah of Fenerbache, Chelsea's Michael Essien and Eric Addo of PSV.
They will field an all-European forward line with players from Switzerland, Italy, Denmark and Germany.
Goalkeepers: Sammy Adjei (Mohadon Sports Ashdod, Israel), George Owu (AshantiGold), Richard Kingston (BB Ankaraspor, Turkey).
Defenders: Addoquaye Pappoe (Ashdod Tel-Aviv, Israel), John Painstil (Hapoel Tel Aviv, Israel), John Mensah(Rennes, France), Issa Ahmed (Randers, Denmark), Sammy Osei Kuffuor (AS Roma, Italy), Hans Adu Sarpei (Vfl Wolfsburg, Germany), Dan Quaye (Hearts of Oak), Habib Mohammed (King Faisal), Shilla Illiasu (Asante Kotoko).
Midfielders: Michael Essien (Chelsea, England), Sulley Ali Muntari (Udinese, Italy), Haminu Dramani (Red Star Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro), Eric Addo (PSV Eindhoven,Holland) Derek Boateng (AIK Solna, Sweden), Otto Addo (FSV Mainz 05, Germany) , Stephen Appiah (Fenerbache, Turkey).
Forwards: Alex Tachie-Mensah (St. Gallen, Switzerland), Asamoah Gyan (Modena, Italy) Matthew Amoah (Borussia Dortmund, Germany), Razak Pimpong (FC Copenhagen, Denmark).
On Standby: Philemon McCarthy (Fetteh Feyenoord), Aziz Ansah (Asante Kotoko), Yusif Chibsah (Asante Kotoko), Baffour Gyan (Dynamo Moscow, Russia), Baba Adamu (Krylia Sovetov, Russia).
