Ghana lose Gyan appeal

20/06/2006: Striker Asamoah Gyan will miss Ghana's final and crucial group game against USA through a match ban, after FIFA turned down an appeal.

The 20-year-old forward received his second yellow card of the World Cup finals in their 2-0 win over the Czech Republic, after taking a penalty before the referee had blown his whistle.

Despite Ghana appealing to FIFA to overturn the second yellow card, on the basis that Gyan had heard a whistle from the crowd, FIFA have denied their request and consequently he will miss the game on Friday.
