03/06/2006: Germany put in an impressive performance when beating Columbia 3-0 in their latest friendly fixture.

The victory is a boost to the nation following a disappointing 2-2 draw with Japan during the week.

Captain Michael Ballack got the ball rolling turning in a Bastian Schweinsteiger's free kick after 21 minutes in Monchengladbach.

Schweinsteiger made it 2-0 after 36 minutes before substitute Tim Borowski sealed the friendly win with 20 minutes to play.

Meanwhile there was further good news for Klinsmann as full-back Philipp Lahm returned to Germany's line-up for the first time since he injured his elbow last month.

Klinsmann was happy with the performance and gave his players to weekend off to visit family and friends.

"After two years working hard towards this goal, we can hardly wait for it to start," said Klinsmann.

"We're hungry for the tournament and we'll stay hungry because we want to be in it all the way to the end,"
