Garcia enjoying new Spain

17/06/2006: Luis Garcia believes a rejuvenated Spain can finally emerge as real contenders to lift World Cup 2006.

The perennial underachievers kicked off their campaign in some style with a 4-0 win over Ukraine and now many observers believe they are finally ready to challenge the likes of Argentina and Brazil and win the World Cup.

Liverpool forward Garcia says there is a new spirit in the Spanish camp and believes they can go much further in the tournament.

"Of course we have discussed things from the past, because we know Spain have not done as well as people expected after starting impressively," he said.

"But it is a different thing altogether this time. What people must realise is that this is a new team, with new players and a new era. If we carry on playing like we did in our first game then no one will find it easy to get a result against us."
