France v Romania Free betting

09/06/2008:

The first match in the self proclaimed “Group of Death” gets underway at the Letzugrund, Zurich on June 9th 2008 and sees Romania take on the might of France. Points will be very difficult to come by in Group C so both teams will want to get off to the best possible start and gets some points on the board. You can use free bets available from Betfair and Skybet to bet on the outcome of this opening match of Group C and for other tournament long bets. Romania may look outclassed in the company of Netherlands, France and Italy but you can bet they won’t go down without a fight and will have some say in who the eventual winner of Euro 2008 is. They were impressive in qualifying having booked their place with two games to go and finished top of their group above Holland and rising to 12th place in the FIFA rankings. They will need their captain marvel, Inter Milan’s Christian Chivu, to be on top form organising his defence if they are to shut out the prolific French marksmen. Their own strike partnership of Adrian Mutu and Ciprian Marica scored 11 of their 27 goals in qualifying and both strikers have the pace and skills that will worry any defence, not just the ageing back line of the French. The Romanian team is very flexible and it needs to be as the coach has a habit of changing his side and used a massive 39 different players during qualification!

The French team struggled, by their standards, in qualifying for Euro 2008 finishing in second spot and only two points above Scotland, who they lost both home and away to. However, one look down their team sheet shows that the French have the quality in depth that could see them lift the trophy for the third time, having won the competition in 1984 and again in 2000. With Viera and Makalele marshalling the midfield allowing their flamboyant wingers Franck Ribery and Florent Malouda to supply crosses and passes to the like of Thierry Henry and Nicholas Anelka up front, you’d be right in thinking Romania will have a torrid time trying to contain the French attacks. The coach has taken a gamble and left out prolific striker David Trezeguet from his squad, replacing him with the relatively unknown St Etienne forward Bafetimbi Gomis, who turned down a chance to play for Senegal in order to play in Euro 2008 and you can bet that he will want to repay the coaches faith in him by scoring the goals that take France through to the knockout stages. The game should be full of goals with both teams playing an attacking style of football and scoring 52 goals between them in qualifying. With free bets from Betfair and Skybet you can place free bets on the first and last goal scorer, the half-time and full-time scores, the time of the first goal and the end result of the match to name only a few of the free bet options available.
