Flags removed after violence threat

25/04/2006: A German brothel has been forced to remove the flags of Iran and Saudi Arabia from its provocative advertising posters by angry Muslims.

The flags had been part of a display outside the brothel in Cologne where the flags of all 32 countries were shown.

The owner of the brothel, Mr Lobscheid, said there had been threats of violence if the offending images were not removed.

"The situation was explosive," Mr Lobscheid told Cologne newspaper Koelner Stadt-Anzeiger.

"Some of the people compared our ad to the Danish Mohammed cartoons," he said, referring to cartoons that sparked violent protests in several Muslim countries earlier this year.

Mr Lobscheid said the banner had been commissioned from a reputable source and "we certainly didn't intend to insult anyone".
