FIFA investigate Rooney red card

02/07/2006: FIFA have opened an investigation into Wayne Rooney's 62nd-minute red card against Portugal in yesterday's World Cup quarter-final.

The Manchester United star received his marching orders after tangling with Ricardo Carvalho before pushing club-mate Cristiano Ronaldo in the chest.

A FIFA spokesman said: "Wayne Rooney got a direct red card so he will automatically be suspended.

"It will be a disciplinary case. Like any player the committee will decide on the penalty."

Comments on: FIFA investigate Rooney red card

02/07/2006: Cristiano Ronaldo was the cause of this. He was playing up, for gods sake. He overreacted. Rooney didn't do anything.

02/07/2006: yep that was the Rooney's unfinished bussines with Portugal ..... next time remember the fair play rules .... don't be an a__hole Joga Bonito and respect the rules.

03/07/2006: Rooney deserved what he got, he's an great player but he can be an ass sometimes, he needs to grow up.

03/07/2006: he did not stamp deliberately if you watch the replay, he was being wrestled down by two players and the rubbish ref didnt do anything about that. This led to Rooney getting angry, but when pretty boy Ronaldo came running in and acting up....this is what pushed him too far!Yellow card certainly, red no!the ref's need sorting out, this lot of refs were shocking!
