FIFA go ahead for Republic replacement
11/06/2006: FIFA has given permission to allow Libor Sionko to replace Vladimir Smicer after his World Cup hopes were dashed due to injury.
Smicer suffered a hamstring injury during a warm-up for the World Cup and admitted that he didn't think he would recover in time.
A week prior to the start of the tournament he announced his decision to withdraw, saying that he hadn't been able to train fully.
After liasing with FIFA, it has been announced that the Czechs will be allowed to bring in Sionko in replace of Smicer, after providing the necessary documents.
