FIFA consider yellow card option

05/07/2006: FIFA say they are considering allowing three yellow cards before a suspension comes into effect for future World Cups.

At the moment, two bookings in separate group stage or knockout round games leads to a one-match suspension, with FIFA president Sepp Blatter saying the three-booking rule could help if a player has been unfortunate to pick up one of the cautions.

Blatter admitted: "In future perhaps there should be three yellow cards in a round before a suspension. It's something we will take up.

"The referees should also first tell a player to calm down and then give him a yellow card the second time if it is not a very serious foul."
