Fernando Torres

12/05/2006: Despite playing for the smaller team in Spain's capital, Fernando Torres is without doubt one of the country's greatest talents.

The striker is constantly the subject of transfer rumours due to his persistent ability to score regularly, even in a side not setting the world on fire.

Recently, there have been rumours of a move to Arsenal, after fellow Spaniard Cesc Fabregas said he would love to see Torres playing alongside him for the Gunners.

Still only 22, he has worked his way to the Atletico Madrid first team and is now the captain of the side. It will be his first World Cup and Spaniards will be hoping that he will be the missing ingredient to send them to the final for the first time in their history.

Spain are now ranked fifth in the world, but are perennial underachievers at World Cup and European tournaments.

If they are to succeed this time round the one they call "el nino" will have to stir up a storm with his goal scoring.

Comments on: Fernando Torres

15/06/2006: Trips over his own feet and goes down like a sack of spuds, then stays laid flat out as if a car has hit him to cheat his way to a penalty, and to cap it all a resulting spot-kick that ended the game. Now I want Spain to lose every match.

15/06/2006: I've always thought a very good way to put a stop to the majority of diving/cheating would be to allow retrospective video analysis in the same way it is used for violent conduct incidents. What happened recently? The FA submitted a request to FIFA (or UEFA can't quite remember) to do exactly that. Guess what...the request was rejected!!What does this say about the game when video evidence can be used after games to suspend players for violent incidents but not for blatantly cheating? They are obviously happy for it to continue in my view.

20/06/2006: He enjoys playing for the love of the game after seeing him play live for Aletico you realise exactly how good he is and what he is capable of.

22/06/2006: fernando torres is a great player for spain he knows what he doing and helps the team in any way shape or form !

23/06/2006: Fernando is one of the best Spain players in the World Cup. He's fit and sexy and I love him. Getting his name on the back of my Spain jersey but if there's none there i'll get an Alonso one as he's good as well.

24/06/2006: Fernando Torres is a great player and knows how to move with the ball. He is a great package for Spain and any team. All Arsenal fans hope to see him in a Arsenal shirt next season!

25/06/2006: He's one of the cutest players.

28/06/2006: Okay, first of all, he has such a cool name, Torres? That's just neat. Second, he moves so well with the ball, and moves so quickly.Third, he's one of the hottest players in the FIFA tournament, that's just one girls opinion. But I definitely don't think he trips over his own feet and lays there like a lump or whatever. He's one of the players that doesn't do that.

13/07/2006: saw torres in dubai, hes a lovely guy and a brilliant playerwell done, and hes hot(well done mate).

09/09/2007: One of my only memories of Torres is when he dove like a little baby during the world cup. He seems to do that often. But it also seems that it doesn't matter if you're cute... Pathetic.

03/04/2008: torres is the best player and the fittest . and not just talkin about his body ...???? x
