Fergie makes striker admission

20/07/2006: Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted he will not look to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy and will go with what he has got for next season.

Van Nistelrooy looks set to sign for either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich and it was widely expected that Ferguson would draft in a replacement with Fernando Torres said to be top of his wanted list.

However, Fergie seems happy to go with Wayne Rooney, Louis Saha, Giuseppe Rossi and Alan Smith, who will revert back to a striker once he is back fully fit in September.

Fergie told the club's website: "We are not too badly off in the forwards department. We are going to convert Alan Smith back into being a forward. He will be back in training soon and should be available by the end of August or the beginning of September.

"We have Louis Saha and Wayne Rooney and we are considering keeping Giuseppe Rossi with us, even though I would prefer him to go out on loan for six months."
