Female first for Saudis
20/05/2006: There will be a first for Saudi Arabia in World Cup 06 when a female journalist will cover their matches.
The journalist for a French TV station will report daily from the Saudi camp including interviewing players, reporting gossip and injury news.
"I am the first French woman ever to get permission from the General Presidency of Youth Welfare for covering a major Saudi football event," Clarence Rodriguez of France Television told Arab News.
"I am the first French female journalist to interview them for a sports programme. If I can pave the way for a Saudi female journalist to interview the authorities in the field of sports, I shall be proud and happy," she added.
Saudi Arabia face Tunisia, Ukraine and Spain and will be hoping not to repeat their performance in the last World Cup where they failed to score a goal and completed the group with no points to show for their efforts.
