Fabio Cannavaro
15/05/2006: The Italian captain Fabio Cannavaro will be hoping that he can lead his side to a slightly better performance than that witnessed at the last World Cup, when the Italian side crashed out after a defeat by South Korea.
The loss really hurt Italian pride, but Cannavaro can hold his head high as he was not involved in the match, which witnessed some controversial refereeing desicions.
Currnetly playing for the Italian champion Juventus, the defender will be playing in his third World up finals.
His reading of the game is the attribute that has made him so successful, as at 176cm, he is no the tallest central defender in the world, but he is one of the most intuitive.
Fabio Cannavaro has already earned well over 90 caps for Italy, but has yet to taste World Cup victory with the Azzurri.
He will be hoping that he and the current crop of Italian talent can repeat the 1982 feat and take the title. With such a tight defence and clinical attack, it would take a brave man to bet against them.
