England set for Trinidad test
15/06/2006: England go into their latest World Cup 2006 game against the Soca Warriors with arguably a stronger side than the team that strolled past Paraguay now that Gary Neville has pulled out with a calf strain.
The Manchester United full-back will be replaced by Liverpool's Jamie Carragher in a game in which victory will see England all but qualify for the latter stages of the tournament.
Wayne Rooney has been declared match fit by coach Sven-Goran Eriksson and may play at some stage in the second half.
Captain David Beckham has warned against complacency from the England side and gives the utmost respect to Trinidad and Tobago.
Beckham said: "Potentially they have got players who can hurt us and capitalise on mistakes or bad play.
"It is up to us to forget about anything said about this game and how easy it should be and be professional about it and go and win it.
"We would be hugely disappointed if we didn't win. We have to go into it thinking we are playing the best team in the World Cup and we have to go into every game like that."
Day six of World Cup 2006 and as Tunisia and Saudi Arabia kicked off in Munich the last of the 32 teams got their tournament underway.
Three hours earlier Spain had produced the most convincing first match performance when seeing off Ukraine by an emphatic four goals to nil courtesy of a double of dead ball situations from David Villa, a header from Liverpool's Xabi Alonso and a fine strike by Fernando Torres.
Ukraine can consider themselves slightly unfortunate having had Vladyslav Vashchyuk sent off not only for an innocuous tackle but also for conceding a penalty at the same time that put the game out of their reach at 3-0.
Spain looked a very promising unit and possibly appeared the best side in the tournament to date. With easier games to come against Tunisia and Saudi Arabia they can afford to relax.
The above mentioned teams played a out a thrilling encounter with Bolton Wanderers Radhi Jaidi rescuing a point for Tunisia in injury time to deny the Saudis their first World Cup win. The Lions of Carthage had gone ahead in the first half through Zied Jaziri and had looked comfortable until the brightest young thing from Arabia Yasser Al Kahtani netted a superb equaliser. With ten minutes to play the legendary Sami Al-Jaber, who had replaced the tireless Yasser Al Kahtani netted with his first touch. Sadly for the Saudi's Jaidi's goal gave an African team their first point of the tournament.
In the final game of the day in World Cup 2006, the hosts beat Poland thanks to a late goal from Oliver Neuville.

Comments on: England set for Trinidad test
15/06/2006: Hargreaves should and will be given his chance. The game needs something special that Carragher does not have.
15/06/2006: A brave thought about Hargreaves. He is undoubtedly a good player but why risk him at an unconventional right-back position where he has no experience. At least Carragher has proved himself both at club and international level in that role. The only reason for doing so I suppose is if England get short at centre-half then Carragher slot in there leaving the right-back berth a bit weak. Giving Hargeaves experience there might be a good idea.
