England Ringtones Betting

Bookmakers are betting on which England World Cup ringtone or song (unofficial or official) will gain the highest chart position before the World Cup final on July 9.

Tonedef Allstars and 'Who do you think you are kidding Jurgen Klinsmann' is the short price jolly followed by the FA official song by Embrace who are 13/8 second favourites to chart highest.

A leading betting analyst said: "This has been a very difficult book to price up but based on the interest for 'Who Do You Think You Are Kidding' we have had to make them favourites, but we are not writing off Embrace just yet."

Which World Cup-related song will gain the highest chart position on the day of the World Cup Final?

  • 1/1 Tonedef All Stars - Who do you think you are kidding Jurgen Klinsman?
  • 7/4 Embrace - World At Your Feet
  • 9/2 Talksport - We're England
  • 8/1 Il Divo - Time Of Our Lives
  • 14/1 Baddiel & Skinner - Three Lions
  • 25/1 Virgin Radio - Hurry Up England
  • 33/1 Crazy Frog - We Are The Champions
  • 50/1 Jim Noir - Eanie Meanie
  • 50/1 Joe Fagin - That's England Alright

2002
In 2002 for the World Cup in Japan and South Korea only the following football-related songs made the top 40.

  • Elvis vs JXL - "A Little Less Conversation" (no. 1)
  • Ant & Dec - "We're On The Ball" (Official England song, no. 3)
  • DJ Otzi - "Hey Baby (World Cup Remix)" (no. 10)
  • Baddiel & Skinner and The Lightning Seeds - "Three Lions" (no. 16)
  • Bell & Spurling - "Goldenballs (Mr Beckham to You)" (no. 25).

1998
There were less songs around for the 1998 World Cup finals in France with just three getting into the top 40 with Three Lions still being possibly the most loved World Cup song.

  • Baddiel & Skinner and Lightning Seeds - "Three Lions '98" (for England, no. 1)
  • Fat Les - "Vindaloo" (for England, no. 2)
  • England United - (How Does It Feel To Be) On Top Of The World (no. 9) .

1990
England failed to qualify in 1994 and there were no football-related songs in the charts but in 1990 possibly the best World Cup song was created when New Order teamed up with some England players including John Barnes to record World In Motion.

1982
One has to go back to 1982 for the next football related charter. Once again it was the official FA World Cup tune. In the same year Scotland also reached the top reaches of the charts with the ironic 'We have a dream' however they soon woke up going out as usual in the first round.

  • England World Cup Squad - "This Time (We'll Get it Right)" (no. 2)
  • Scotland World Cup Squad - "We Have A Dream" (no. 5)

1978
Strangely there were more in 1978 when England once again failed to qualify with Rod Stewart flying the flag for the British public though the unofficial song is problem the best remembered – Ally's Army. Even the Beeb got in on the act.

  • Rod Stewart featuring the Scottish World Cup Squad - "Ole Ola (Mulher Brasileira)" (no. 4)
  • Andy Cameron - "Ally's Tartan Army"(for Scotland, no. 6)
  • San Jose featuring Rodriguez Argentina - "Argentine Melody" (BBC World Cup theme, no. 14)

1974
Scotland once again qualified and their team sang the dreadful Easy Easy. It wasn't and they went out in the first round.

  • Scotland World Cup Squad - "Easy Easy"(no. 20 )

1970
After England's famous World Cup win in 1966 the boys released the wonderful Back Home for the tournament in Mexico. They came back home far too soon as they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by those bloody Germans!

  • England World Cup Squad - "Back Home" (no. 1)

So which song will chart the highest for World Cup 2006. You decide (well, if you still buy singles. Does anyone?)
